The newest physicist in Congress

Scientific American's JR Minkel profiles the newest member of Congress, physicist and entrepreneur Bill Foster. This profile is more detailed than most news reports I've seen so far.

Foster was at Fermilab for 22 years, where he was involved in various aspects of particle physics and accelerator physics research, including an instrumental role in creation of the Recycler storage ring, a major upgrade to the Fermilab accelerator complex. The Recycler more than doubled the rate of collisions of protons and antiprotons in the Tevatron collider.

Foster joins two other physics PhDs in Congress—Reps. Rush Holt (D–N.J.) and Vernon Ehlers (R–Mich.).
