Last year, in the hope of finding asteroids cloaked by excessive sunlight, an international team of astronomers co-opted a camera primarily designed to investigate dark energy.
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory’s key instrument is almost ready to be installed on the telescope, where it will image tens of billions of cosmic objects.
These international projects, selected during the process to plan the future of US particle physics, are all set to come online within the next 10 years.
