The accelerator ran for ten years and made multiple contributions to the field of particle physics and our knowledge of the universe; but for decades after it was decommissioned, the high bay built to house it was used for everything from building telescopes to extracting dinosaur bones.
Teams from Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and Sanford Underground Research Facility have successfully completed the first test lift and lowering of a six-ton L-shaped steel beam for construction of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment in Lead, South Dakota.
